Strange golf news of the week
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office says a golf cart had more under the hood than it needed to putter across the fairway.
It had enough horsepower to elude deputies during a chase.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Peay says the driver took the cart into an alfalfa field, where it jumped irrigation ditches during the chase. Peay says the cart wasn’t faster than sheriff’s cruisers, but deputies couldn’t get through the ditches that the cart cleared.
Peay says the chase started when the cart was spotted spinning out in a city park on Aug. 16. The driver got away, but officers recognized him and arrested him the next day at his grandmother’s house.
Peay suspects the cart was fitted with a car engine instead of the original electric motor. He says the hot-rod golf cart’s whereabouts are still unknown.
