Play Better Golf by Mentally Preparing
By M Scherrah -
Many people do not realize that golf is a mental game too. How many times have you gotten angry from a poor shot, and went on to play an absolutely horrible round of golf? If you want to play better golf, you need to prepare yourself mentally before each and every hole.
Three key tips to mental preparation:
1. On each tee box, walk to the edge and survey the hole. Visualize yourself hitting the perfect ball. This sounds weird, but it helps. If you have a good mental picture of where you want to hit the ball, and how you want to achieve those results, you will subconsciously do it. This is a little known tip to play better golf.
2. Deep breathing helps to calm you down. Before you take your backswing, take a moment to close your eyes, and take a deep breath. Being tense in any part of your swing is going to devastate the resulting ball position. You want to be as calm as possible in order to keep the visualization process going.
3. Clear you mind. If you want to play better golf, you need a clear mind. When taking a swing, you are not going to be able to hit a perfect ball if you have hundreds of thoughts rifling through your head. This is actually easier to do than it sounds. After you take a deep breath, think of nothing than hitting the ball ball perfectly.
If you follow these three key pointers, there is no doubt that you are going to improve your swing and play better golf.
