How to Correct a Golf Slice - A Simple and Effective Cure
By Philip Woodrow -
Few golfers have escaped the misery of the golf slice. Slicing is the most common golf fault, and if allowed to go uncorrected it can become a chronic slice which means it is more difficult to correct.
Some golfers are content to allow for the slice in all their shots. I don’t know about you, but I have done this a few times and occasionally when I have started the ball out to the left expecting it to bend to the right as normal, it has not happened. The ball continues on a straight flight path into the rough, and I am left wondering how that happened.
The cause of a golf slice is a weak grip, so there also lies the solution. With a weak grip, you are likely showing one or no knuckles on your left hand and the V on your right hand points to the left of your chin. The result of this scenario is the club face will be open at impact and the ball will bend to the right of the target.
Going back to golf fundamentals, the correct grip shows one and a half knuckles on the left hand and the V on your right hand points at your chin. At impact the club face will be square and the result is a straight shot.
When you first realize your grip is the cause of your golf slice and you correct it for the first time it will feel strange for a while until you have become comfortable with it. But persevere with the correct golf grip and once again you will be able to enjoy hitting the ball straight and far.
